George Ryan, VP of BLSA, introduces the hustling tonight. He is chairing the event and outlines the roles being run for tonight #QMelections
Rules for tonights Hustlings: One minutes to talk. Questions from audience. 30 seconds to respond. If healthy debate, may continue. If you talk to much George will cut you off.
You can tweet #QMElections to get in contact tonight and post straight to this feed.
Candidates for Barts and The London Faculty Representative (Clinical) first #QMelections
Alex Fowler, running for Clinical Rep is giving a rhymed speech #QMelections
#QMelections iambic pentameter ftw
yes -young dr shipman is doing poetry. Smart and sexy. #qmelections
A speech given entirely in verse (heroic couplets) at #QMElections - unbelievably good!
Clinical factory reps currently giving speeches. Aaron Braddy is talking first. He wants to develop "novel ways" to gander feedback. Sounds excited. No Nitjish. Alex Fowler takes the stage. His speech rhymes, his voice is clear, full of humour. Impressed with his ability to rhyme SSLC.
And so it begins with a poem! Interesting #QMelections
Alex Fowler, Iambic Pentameter god. #QMElections
Giving their speeches are Aaron Brady and Alexander Fowler #QMelections
Alex the great's poetical stylings get massive applause from the room. #QMElections
"This poem I've written for you as my bait/ so you will vote for Alex the Great" #QMelections
Richard Donovan asks "what are the three biggest issues that students face at BL?" and an email regarding the recent changes to consultant feedback required on firms.
Can't deny my love for a poem #qmelections
Fowler responds with being forced to fail firms is "fundamentally wrong". Haven't been clear guidance on what to do at trusts, discrepancies between trusts and needs to be unified.
Brady says we need more time to give feedback. Students should be seizing learning opportunities. Learning outcomes are being updated and clinical students should be involved in this consultation.
As clinical students, these guys seem to know what they are talking about. Both comment on issues in firms and their relevant feedback problems.
Up next giving their speeches are the #QMelections candidates for Barts and The London Faculty Representative (Dental)
Dentist Reps up next, Joe Smith and Rosie Pritchett... the latter is not present at the hustings #QMelections
Joe Smith for Dental Faculty rep speaks. Is aware of flaws. What flaws? Has lots of experience with ENTs and Dental Society. Can raise awareness of dental students to non-dental students.
We've just heard from one candidate Joseph Smith #QMelections
Question for Smith "how can you help the dental school and the medical school?" Discusses QM graduate skills. It's been difficult to develop due to Wednesday afternoon commitments. A problem that needs to be addressed. He was partially distracted by Elephant photographer. Rosie Pritchett was unavailable for her speech.
George Ryan is efficiently chairing today's hustings. We're on a tight schedule, loads of candidates are due to make a speech #QMelections
how is it fairer to wait for someone who is late? #qmelections #skysports
We're skipping onto the candidates for Campaigns Officer (Barts and The London) #QMelections
#QMelections hustings woefully empty of actual voting students, apathy?
rugby boys get a ladies night? maybe i should start rugby #qmelections
Not sure what exactly the SU are concerned about but apparently an SLR makes too much noise, apologies if candidates don't get equal coverage because of this later
Campaigns Officer is next,Hannah Downer says QM Disability services not great, and they don't recognise ADHD as a disability #qmelections
Hannah Downer and Christine James for Welfare rep. Hannah Downer believes that ME has no idea what a true disability is and provides an example of no support for ADHD. She also believes that a women issues need to be developed.
Christie James also start her speech with 'QM disability services is not great' #QMelections
A difference I notice is that QM students always talk about changing the union and BL students about changing the university. #qmelections
Both BL candidates running for campaigns officer want to tackle women's and disability issues #QMelections
#QMelections highly unfair for SU to wait for late comers, if you cant be on time you dont deserve our vote
James has used the disability services and believes it is not up to scratch. She wants to bring ME disability team down to Whitechapel once a week. Now taking questions on female issues and disabilities. Suggests a leaflet in freshers packs, identifying these issues and help points.
Hannah Downer says there's sexism in hospitals. She'll combat this #qmelections
Surely the former should happen mainly as a result of the latter? #qmelections
Downer comments on sexism in hospitals and on wards both ways. Agrees that a contact on Whitechapel for disabilities is essential. Admits that campaigns are difficult to get out there and will work with ME officers to bring all benefits to Barts.
"@larrywrites: rugby boys get a ladies night? maybe i should start rugby #qmelections" haha so should I
A second candidate goes for the heroic couplet speech... it's manifestly less effective a second round time... #QMElections
